The CIViC (Clinical Interpretations of Variants in Cancer) Project is one of the many data providers for MyVariant.info, but it is one that stands out in many ways. Not only does CIViC provide data to MyVariant.info, CIViC also leverages the very tool it contributes to. Add this to the fact that CIViC is open source, effectively utilizes crowdsourcing, and that the team behind CIViC were swift to shift the licensing of CIViC content to CC0–and you can see why CIViC really stands out and why the Wu and Su Labs at Scripps Research are co-hosting this Hackathon / Curation Jamboree centering around CIViC.
The event is scheduled to take place from Monday, Oct 15, 2018, 9:00 AM to Tuesday, Oct 16, 2018, 12:00 PM PDT here at Scripps Research. Although many of the event goals involve CIViC, there are just as many goals aimed at developing and improving variant and precision medicine resources in general.
