How do non-scientists perform when asked to annotate scientific literature?
Apparently very well!
How does this relate to the citizen science project, Mark2Cure?
New API for species data
Last week, we released a new feature to support querying genes beyond the species level, at levels of genus, family,…,phylum. As a companion of this new feature, we have now added a new API for developers to get the species data programatically:

The Secret Amino Acid — #GeneOTW with Selenoprotein T
The Flying Dutchman. A 4x4. Animal style fries, well done. If you know the lingo, In-N-Out’s “secret” menu has enough delicious goodies to satisfy everyone’s tastes. Personally, I’d never order the “Wish Burger” (as in, “I wish there were meat in here”), but for some...

This week, we profile thePharmacogenomics Knowledge Base (PharmGKB) a knowledge base professional scientists and developers at Stanford University. Dr. Michelle Whirl-Carrillo, the Associate Director of PharmGKB, kindly answered our questions. In one tweet or less,...
Query genes beyond species, at levels of genus, family,…,phylum
In a typical MyGene.info query, you can query genes for one or multiple species by providing a “species” parameter:

TEDx talk on Citizen Science for Biology
Earlier this year, Syd Peterson invited me to give a talk at TEDxClaremontColleges. When Syd told me that the theme was "Unexpected Narratives", I wondered how my lab's research could possibly fit. To me, it felt like an "eat your broccoli" situation -- that packed...
